Every normal logic program has a 2-valued semantics: theory, extensions, applications, implementations

Trabalho apresentado no âmbito do Doutoramento em Informática, como requisito parcial para obtenção do grau de Doutor em InformáticaAfter a very brief introduction to the general subject of Knowledge Representation and Reasoning with Logic Programs we analyse the syntactic structure of a logic program and how it can influence the semantics. We outline the important properties of a 2-valued semantics for Normal Logic Programs, proceed to define the new Minimal Hypotheses semantics with those properties and explore how it can be used to benefit some knowledge representation and reasoning mechanisms. The main original contributions of this work, whose connections will be detailed in the sequel, are: • The Layering for generic graphs which we then apply to NLPs yielding the Rule Layering and Atom Layering — a generalization of the stratification notion; • The Full shifting transformation of Disjunctive Logic Programs into (highly nonstratified)NLPs; • The Layer Support — a generalization of the classical notion of support; • The Brave Relevance and Brave Cautious Monotony properties of a 2-valued semantics; • The notions of Relevant Partial Knowledge Answer to a Query and Locally Consistent Relevant Partial Knowledge Answer to a Query; • The Layer-Decomposable Semantics family — the family of semantics that reflect the above mentioned Layerings; • The Approved Models argumentation approach to semantics; • The Minimal Hypotheses 2-valued semantics for NLP — a member of the Layer-Decomposable Semantics family rooted on a minimization of positive hypotheses assumption approach; • The definition and implementation of the Answer Completion mechanism in XSB Prolog — an essential component to ensure XSB’s WAM full compliance with the Well-Founded Semantics; • The definition of the Inspection Points mechanism for Abductive Logic Programs;• An implementation of the Inspection Points workings within the Abdual system [21] We recommend reading the chapters in this thesis in the sequence they appear. Neutral Axis Depth versus Ductility and Plastic Rotation Capacity on Bending in Lightweight-Aggregate Concrete Beams

This article presents an experimental study on the evolution of the neutral axis depth at failure in the critical section with the flexural ductility and plastic rotation capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) lightweight-aggregate concrete (LWAC) beams. For this, the results of a previous experimental program involving RC LWAC beams tested in flexure until failure are used. The variable studies were the concrete compressive strength (between 22.0 and 60.4 MPa and dry density between 1651 and 1953 kg/m3) and the longitudinal tensile reinforcement ratio (between 0.13% and 2.69%). The flexural ductility and the plastic rotation capacity of the RC LWAC beams are characterized by a ductility index and a plastic trend parameter, respectively. The influence of the variable studies, as well as the relation of the flexural ductility and plastic rotation capacity with the values for the neutral axis depth at failure are analyzed and discussed. Some conclusions are drawn which can be useful for the design of RC LWAC beams for flexure. In particular, it is shown that the practical rule of limiting the neutral axis depth at failure to ensure ductile behavior, as used in normal-weight aggregate concrete beams, is also valid for RC LWAC beams.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Perspetivas de atualização da doutrina nacional de Artilharia de Campanha

A presente investigação titulada de “Os Métodos de Pontaria nos países da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte - Perspetivas de atualização da doutrina nacional de Artilharia de Campanha”, tem com objetivo analisar os métodos de pontarias utilizadas pela Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa tendo por base de comparação os métodos em uso pelos principais Exércitos da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte, na perspetiva de validar a doutrina nacional à luz do que é feito, atualmente, ao nível da NATO e eventualmente propor atualizações. Para esse propósito, esta investigação subordina-se a uma abordagem indutiva e a uma metodologia qualitativa, na forma de análise da doutrina estrangeira, recolhida através dos Pedidos de Informação enviados aos adiados militares dos Exércitos em estudo da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte, e também de entrevistas realizadas a dois especialistas. Com este trabalho, conclui-se que os métodos de pontaria não estão atualizados, uma vez que existem sistemas automáticos que permitiriam retirar um maior rendimento operacional dos nossos sistemas de armas. Depreende-se também a necessidade do reequipamento da Artilharia de Campanha Portuguesa, nomeadamente com um sistema automático de posicionamento e direção de forma a incrementar a interoperabilidade com as restantes Artilharias de Campanha da Organização do Tratado do Atlântico Norte

A medicina paliativa como medicina de proximidade. Suspensão dos julgamentos gerais e acção médica em regime de familiaridade

Dissertação apresentada para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Doutor em Sociologia, na especialidade de Sociologia da Cultura, do Conhecimento e da Educação.Esta dissertação versa sobre a medicina paliativa nos hospitais de Portugal Continental. O seu quadro teórico mais basilar funda-se na denominada sociologia pragmática. O seu principal foco analítico centra-se na tensão entre diferentes regimes de envolvimento na acção convocados pelos médicos no seio da medicina e na forma como estes regimes dependem de julgamentos morais realizados por estes profissionais. É à luz da possibilidade de existência de uma pluralidade de regimes de envolvimento na acção no quadro da actividade médica quotidiana, que se analisa, em primeiro lugar, a acção médica nos cuidados paliativos e a forma como esta se procura demarcar de uma medicina «convencional». Caracterizadas, a traços fundamentais, uma e outra abordagem médica (com natural preponderância para a «abordagem paliativa»), procura-se seguidamente dar conta do processo de tradução pública, pelos médicos de cuidados paliativos, do sentido moral que constroem no seio dos cuidados paliativos e que funda a sua forma específica de envolvimento na acção profissional quotidiana. Finalmente, procura-se averiguar exploratoriamente (isto é, a partir de uma amostra não representativa, do ponto de vista estritamente estatístico) a possibilidade de existência de uma analogia entre o sentido moral comum dos médicos nos cuidados paliativos face àquilo que são certas dimensões centrais do trabalho hospitalar em cuidados paliativos e a percepção e avaliação da população com 15 anos ou mais e residente em Portugal Continental sobre o mesmo assunto. O fenómeno podcast : impacto do consumo de podcasts na lealdade à plataforma distribuidora

This dissertation aims to investigate whether Podcast Consumption can influence Consumer Loyalty to the platforms that distribute this media format, also evaluating the possible mediating role of Loneliness, Social Presence, and Subjective Well-Being. An online focus group was conducted with eleven Podcast consumers to confirm the knowledge obtained from the literature and explore new perspectives on the user's view. An online questionnaire was also conducted to 319 respondents to test research hypotheses. The results show that increased Podcast Consumption has a positive effect on Consumer Loyalty to distribution platforms. In addition, Social Presence and Subjective Well-Being are mediators of the relationship between Podcast Consumption and Consumer Loyalty. On the other hand, the effects of Loneliness as a mediator in the model were not accepted. The author discusses the theoretical contribution and managerial implications of these findings.Esta dissertação pretende investigar se o Consumo de Podcasts pode influenciar a Lealdade do Consumidor às plataformas distribuidoras deste formato media, avaliando igualmente o possível papel de mediação da Solidão, Presença Social e Bem-Estar Subjetivo. Foi realizado um focus group online a onze consumidores de Podcasts para confirmar o conhecimento obtido através da literatura e explorar novas perspetivas sobre a visão do utilizador. Um questionário online foi igualmente realizado a 319 inquiridos para testar as hipóteses de investigação. Os resultados mostram que um Consumo de Podcasts aumentado tem um efeito positivo na Lealdade do Consumidor às plataformas de distribuição. Já a Presença Social e o Bem-Estar Subjetivo são mediadores da relação entre o Consumo de Podcasts e a Lealdade do Consumidor. Contrariamente, os efeitos da Solidão como mediador no modelo não foram aceites. O autor discutiu as contribuições teóricas e as implicações para a gestão destas descobertas

The role of local seasonal foods in enhancing sustainable food consumption: a systematic literature review

This article aims to review the current literature pertaining to the effects of eating local seasonal food on sustainable consumption. To this end, we examined definitions of seasonal and local food, the methodological approaches adopted to study the impact of seasonal consumption on sustainability, and sustainability dimensions investigated in journal articles. Highlighting what seasonal and local means, it is crucial to evaluate the effect of the consumption of these foods on sustainability. A systematic review of the literature was conducted using Scopus and Clarivate’s Web of Science database in line with the recommendations from the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Our findings suggest that the concept of local seasonality provides relevant information to the study of sustainable consumption. However, for better use of this concept, it is crucial to define what is local. Preservação de cristas ósseas pós-extração de terceiros molares superiores com arcabouços de PLGA/B-TCP, com e sem sinvastatina: um estudo clínico e radiográfico em humanos

Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Odontologia, Florianópolis, 2016.Este estudo avaliou clinica e radiograficamente, em humanos, o reparo obtido em cristas ósseas pós-extração de terceiros molares superiores pela utilização de arcabouços de poli(ácido láctico-co-glicólico) com uma cerâmica bifásica de hidroxiapatita/ß-trifosfato de cálcio (70/30), com e sem sinvastatina. Este foi um estudo clínico controlado, randomizado, de boca dividida. Participaram da pesquisa 13 pacientes requerendo extração bilateral dos terceiros molares superiores. Vinte e seis alvéolos pós-extração foram preenchidos aleatoriamente com diferentes biomateriais, perfazendo 4 grupos: osso bovino mineral desproteinizado com 10% de colágeno (OBMD-C), arcabouço de poli(ácido láctico-co-glicólico) associado a hidroxiapatita/ß-TCP (PLGA/HA), arcabouço de PLGA/HA/ß-TCP com sinvastatina a 2,0% (PLGA/HA/S) e cicatrização espontânea (controle). A cicatrização foi avaliada aos 7, 30, 90 dias de pós-operatório, por meio de exame clínico intra-oral e fotografias intra-orais, a fim de fazer um levantamento de possíveis complicações (dor, inflamação, infecção, deiscência da ferida e perda de enxerto). Foram também realizadas Tomografias Computadorizadas por Feixe Cônico em 5 pacientes, após 3 meses de pós-operatório, a fim de comparar o comportamento dos diferentes grupos na mineralização óssea. Os achados clínicos foram submetidos à análise estatística, usando o teste Exato de Fisher (p 0,05), mas não houve no grupo OBMD-C. Os pacientes experienciaram dor em 3 das 8 (37,5%) perdas (p > 0,05) e infecção em 1 das 8 (12,5%) (p > 0,05), mas estas apenas ocorreram no grupo PLGA/HA. Conclui-se que os arcabouços de PLGA/HA/ß-TCP, com e sem sinvastatina, não obtiveram os resultados que eram expectáveis relativamente ao reparo ósseo. Porém, o enxerto de PLGA/HA/ß-TCP com sinvastatina mostrou ser superior, com menos complicações clínicas que o enxerto de PLGA/HA/ß-TCP sem sinvastatina.Abstract : This study aimed to evaluate clinically and radiographically, in humans, the healing of post-extraction sockets by using scaffolds of Poly(D,Llactide- co-glycolide) with a hydroxyapatite/ß-tricalcium phosphate (70/30) biphasic ceramic (PLGA/HA), with and without simvastatin. This was a split-mouth randomized controlled clinical trial. This research was conducted in 13 patients requiring bilateral extraction of maxillary third molars. Twenty six post-extraction sockets were randomly assigned by four treatment modalities: deproteinized bovine bone mineral with 10% collagen (DBBM-C), Poly(lactic-co-glicolic acid) with hydroxyapatite/ß-TCP scaffold (PLGA/HA), PLGA/HA/ß- TCP with 2.0% simvastatin scaffold (PLGA/HA/S) and spontaneous healing (control). Healing was evaluated clinically on subsequent follow-ups (7, 30 and 90 days) by means of intra-oral examination and photographs in order to assess possible complications (inflammation, infection, pain, dehiscence and loss of graft). After the 3 month followup period, CBCT scans were taken in 5 patients in order to evaluate the biomaterials behavior in bone formation. For statistical purposes a Fisher's exact test was used (p 0.05) but no loss was observed in the DBBM-C group. Patients experienced pain in 3 of the 8 sites were graft was lost (37.5%) (p > 0.05) and infection in 1 of the 8 (12.5%) (p > 0.05), with these occuring only in the PLGA/HA group. The results related to bone repair that were obtained with PLGA/HA/ß-TCP scaffolds, with and without simvastatin, were not the expected ones. However, PLGA/HA/ß-TCP with simvastatin showed to be superior, with less clinical complications than the PLGA/HA/ß-TCP without simvastatin
